Grande Rota do Mondego (GR 48)

The Grande Rota do Mondego, or GR 48, is a captivating journey of 142 quilometers, along the picturesque Mondego River, from its headwaters in the Serra da Estrela to its mouth in Figueira da Foz. Spanning diverse terrains, this trail offers a comprehensive experience of Coimbra’s natural beauty, with each section presenting unique landscapes and ecosystems.

Grande Rota do Bussaco (GR 49)

The Grande Rota do Bussaco, or GR 49, takes hikers through the enchanting Bussaco Forest, a protected area renowned for its lush vegetation and historical significance. This trail offers a unique blend of natural beauty and cultural heritage, making it a must-visit for those seeking both adventure and tranquility. We are facing a start-shaped linear path, with a total of 56 km, which incorporates three distinct branches and whose epicenter is Bussaco National Forest. The branches are constituted along the Mealhada - Bussaco sections, over a length of 12 km, Mortágua – Bussaco, with 21 km and Penacova – Bussaco, 23 km.

• Bussaco Forest: Known for its extraordinary biodiversity, the Bussaco Forest is home to a wide variety of plant species, including rare and exotic trees. The forest's dense canopy and tranquil atmosphere make it a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life.
• Historical Sites: The trail passes by the Bussaco Palace, a former royal hunting lodge that now serves as a luxury hotel. Surrounding the palace are beautifully manicured gardens and historical monuments, offering a glimpse into the area's regal past.

Grande Rota do Alva (GR 51)

The Grande Rota do Alva, or GR 51, follows the course of the Alva River, offering hikers stunning river views, lush landscapes, and charming villages. This trail is ideal for those looking to connect with nature and explore the region's cultural treasures. It's a linear route with 77 km of extension and passes through the municipalities of Penacova, Vila Nova of Poiares, Arganil, Tábua and Oliveira do Hospital.

• River Alva: The Alva River, with its clear waters and tranquil beauty, is a central feature of this trail. Hikers can enjoy activities such as fishing and swimming in the river's natural pools, making it a versatile and enjoyable route.

Caminho Natural da Espiritualidade (CNE)

The Caminho Natural da Espiritualidade (CNE), or Natural Path of Spirituality, is a religious themed journey through some of Coimbra's most serene and contemplative landscapes. It's a linear path which connects Coimbra to Sta. Comba Dão in an extension of approximately 67 km, runing through the municipalities of Coimbra, Penacova and Mortágua and explores «the relationship between the motivation of the spiritual journey and the natural heritage in which this route unfolds, with the Portuguese Way of the Interior, of the Routes of Santiago, as a base context and connecting link».

• Spiritual Sites: The trail is dotted with monasteries, chapels, and other sites of spiritual significance. These places offer opportunities for reflection and meditation, enhancing the spiritual aspect of the journey.
